2018 Opening Day Scramble

Location:  The Arboretum Golf Course

Date:  April 14, 2018

Registration Opens: March 15, 2018

TPGL Tournament Director: Rich Smales

FORMAT

4 man teams play as partners in a scratch, scramble format.

  • A scramble means that all team members tee off on each hole and then decide which tee shot they like the best and mark the spot with a tee or ball marker.
  • The other team members pick up their balls and place them within one club length (no closer to the hole) of the marked spot. Each team member hits their next shot from the chosen spot of the prior shot.
  • If the ball you choose to play is in a hazard (sand, water, etc.), the rough, or out of bounds, you cannot drop the ball outside of the hazard or rough even if relief is within one club length away.
  • This procedure is followed on every shot for the remainder of the hole, including putts. The ball should be marked on the putting green also.
  • Putts need to be made within 3 inches of the marked spot (no closer to the hole). The first ball to go in the hole is counted for the team score. When putting, once any ball is holed out, no further strokes count. The team is cautioned not to make “tap” in putts until all team members have had the opportunity to attempt the team’s original putt.

ELIGIBILITY

The tournament is open to all 2018 dues-paying members of the TPGL.

Teams will be determined by a draft the morning of the competition. Captains will be appointed based on the lowest handicaps registered for the event. The draft order for round 1 will be determined by the numbers pulled for each captain. The captain who draws #1 will have the first pick in round 1 but the last pick in round 2. The captain who draws #2 will have the second pick in round 1 but the next to last pick in round 2. The final round draft order will be determined by the numbers pulled for each captain.

In the event there are not enough players to field an equal amount of four-man teams, the competition will resort to a three-man scramble or 2-man scramble.

STARTING TIMES

The TPGL 2018 Opening Day meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 14th at the Arboretum Golf Club at 8:00 AM. This will be followed by a 4-Man scramble competition starting at 9AM sharp. The purpose of the meeting is to quickly review key administration items and the new changes, and also to welcome the new members of the TPGL.

CADDIES AND CARTS

Caddies and carts are permissible in all TPGL events - rain or shine unless otherwise instructed. Players are also allowed to walk and carry or walk and push a cart in all TPGL events.

PRIZES

Gift certificates redeemable at the Arboretum Golf Pro Shop will be awarded to the first and second place teams. The 1st place team receives a $200 gift certificate and the second place team receives a $100 gift certificate. Note: Prize money does not count towards money list to determine playoff spots.

TIES

In the event the tournament ends in a tie, the TPGL will use the USGA’s recommended tie-breaking method. First, matching cards is used to determine the winner on the basis of the best score for the last nine holes. If the tying teams have the same score for the last nine, then we review the last six holes. If still tied, we review the last 3 holes. And, if tied again, we review the 18th hole.

RAINOUT

In the event of inclement weather and the round is cancelled, there is no provision for a make-up date.  The TPGL Committee will determine the best use of the merchandise payouts and will most likely allocate the payouts to other scheduled TPGL events.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Players may use Distance Measuring Devices in all TPGL events.

Non-metal spike policy is in effect.
